These brave survivors will take to the highway on their Harley Davidsons and burn the tar for the cause of creating awareness for breast cancer and the high success rate of survival if detected early.
The four Southern Cape ladies are Frieda Henning (five year survivor) and managing director of JOH, Adri van Nieuwenhuizen (five year survivor) both from George, Vera Moir (14 year survivor) from Knysna and Amy Jansen (six year survivor) from Mossel Bay.
The route for this year's 2 100km ride will see the team riding via Kwazulu Natal, Gauteng, Northwest Province, Free State and the Western Cape.
"There is so much to say about the journey. We all have our stories and riding my Harley through our country is how I'd like to express it," says celebrity guest rider Janie du Plessis, currently in her 11th surviving year after having been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The assumption that a breast cancer diagnosis is an automatic death sentence is in stark contrast to the many dynamic and powerful women who have overcome the disease. A combination of an infectious spirit to survive and the support of family and friends act as inspiration for recovery.
This year the Revlon Journey of Hope wanted to find a unique, different and entertaining way to spread the message that with early detection and treatment, the chances of survival for breast cancer are 95%.
Howzit my bra! by Cape comedian Shimmy Isaacs is that vehicle and audiences across the country will be sent on a rollercoaster journey of emotions that mirrors the process that the brave women fighting breast cancer go through. With her incredible artistic flair that's fuelled by her passion for the cause, Shimmy makes you laugh till you cry and cry till you laugh.
It will be one performance only in the Southern Cape on Thursday 14 October at the Kalahari Restaurant and Theatre in George.
Meet the riders at 12:30 and enjoy a light lunch and Shimmy's play for R80. All proceeds will go to JOH.
Tickets are available at the Theatre on 044 874 5000
