GEORGE NEWS - The George Business Chamber's annual Corporate Golf Day had to be postponed due to pouring rain on Friday 24 June, but the rain did nothing to curb the enthusiasm of the would-be players and other guests for the function at Fancourt Golf Estate that went ahead as planned on Friday night.
As cancellation would have resulted in spent money thrown in the water - literally - chamber management decided that the function with rugby legend Corné Krige as guest speaker would go ahead as planned.
This turned out to be a great idea and the entire evening, including the lucky draws, was a huge hit.
Fancourt golf director Bevan du Plessis made the call on last Friday morning to postpone the golf day. A new date has not been set, but it will most probably be in August.
Chamber manager Bernadette Schaap says the chamber team hastily informed all players and role players that the day's golf was cancelled but that the festivities would go ahead.
"We don't often get the opportunity to have Corné Krige in our midst - not to mention all the arrangements made for the decor and food that would have been for nothing."
GBC vice-chairperson Brenda Vorster was MC for the evening as chairperson Dr Willie Cilliers was studying for an exam.

All guests had a lovely time.
The theme of Krige's excellent talk was "Debunking Motivation". He said motivation comes from within as external factors can only motivate you for a short while. He referred to a match when the All Blacks beat the Bokke 53-3. His speech revolved around three core elements - motivation, aspiration and inspiration.
Schaap is very happy with how the evening unfolded.
"We had excellent feedback from our main sponsor, Absa, whose representatives enjoyed the evening. Thank you to Absa and all the other sponsors and role players who helped to make the evening a success. We will let everyone know as soon as the new date for the annual golf day has been set.
"The prize-giving following the golf day will also take place at Fancourt, but will be a less lavish affair."
