KNYSNA ROAD - A section of Knysna Road was closed for some hours after a pedestrian was hit by a car near Mujo's Bar and Restaurant on Sunday 26 September.
By the time of going to print on Wednesday morning, the identity of the deceased was still unknown.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was hit by a grey Audi A3 that was driving in the direction of the Garden Route Mall from the CBD. The accident happened around 09:50.
"With the impact of the collision, the deceased's leg was ripped from his body and recovered several metres further by paramedics. The unknown pedestrian died on the scene due to multiple injuries."
An eyewitness told George Herald that it was the reckless driving of the Audi driver that caused the death of the pedestrian.
"The man was driving like a maniac, racing down Knysna Road switching lanes all the time. He was putting the lives of myself, my family and other motorists in danger. The poor pedestrian was simply collateral damage of his reckless driving," he said.

According to the witness, the pedestrian was walking to the middle of the road from Le Vallia's side when the Audi hit him. .
"The pedestrian was crossing the road when the Audi suddenly changed lanes. He couldn't have seen it coming. It was terrible to see... the driver was most definitely not sticking to the speed limit," said the witness.
The driver of the Audi was on the scene when the police arrived and was escorted from the scene to the police station for questioning. No one has been charged yet. As soon as the investigation is complete, the docket will be submitted to the Senior Public Prosecutor for a decision to prosecute or not.
