GEORE NEWS - Up until 12:30 on Wednesday 25 March, no Covid-19 cases have been admitted at Mediclinic George or George Hospital for treatment.
"We have contingency plans in place to treat patients. As numbers increase, new areas are identified." said hospital manager Kassie Karstens.
He said he could not comment now on Mediclinic's steps to make provision to get additional staff, should it become necessary.
He gave the reassurance that the hospital has implemented the necessary measures to manage any patients presenting with symptoms of Covid-19.
Their measures are in strict accordance with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and National Department of Health protocols. Measures are also in place to prevent the potential transmission of the virus in the hospital.
Visitors
In order to better manage visitor volumes, the hospital is limiting access to the building to the entrance on the ground floor parking deck off Gloucester Avenue.
Visiting hours have also been temporarily reduced and are now limited to between 15:00 and 16:00 and 19:00 and 20:00. No more than one visitor will be allowed per bed per visiting hour and surgical patients may only have one individual as support on the day of surgery.
"Managing access to the hospital is in the best interests of our patients and healthcare workers. We believe that allowing patients access to their loved ones is an essential part of their recovery and wellness, but that it is important to reduce the risk for all," said Karstens.
"Mediclinic would like to emphasise that everyone within the healthcare sector is working together to fight the pandemic. We encourage communities to adhere to the social distancing efforts and to observe all measures put in place within the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients."
