Update
GEORGE NEWS - The man who is accused of shooting a provincial traffic officer near Pacaltsdorp on 7 August last year, briefly appeared in the George Regional Court on Friday morning, 4 June.
It is alleged that Bonginkosi Ndevu (28) shot officer Janneké Bergman after she pulled over the vehicle he was driving, a silver Audi, near the crossing of Beach Road and the N2 near Pacaltsdorp.
Ndevu, from Khayelitsha in Cape Town, was arrested shortly afterwards when he was spotted walking along the highway. He allegedly opened fire on police and law enforcement who returned fire, wounding him. He was arrested shortly after the shooting.
Two firearms, one of which belonged to the officer, and an undisclosed amount of cash was found in his possession.
Ndevu was scheduled to hand in his plea on Friday, but instead opted to appoint a different legal representative.
He faces two charges of attempted murder as well as a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is scheduled to appear in court again on 2 July.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident. He was shot by police and sustained injuries to his leg and arm.
