New driver's licence scam doing the rounds

GEORGE NEWS - Residents of George are warned about a driver's licence scam that is doing the rounds on Facebook.

A person under the Facebook profile of "Steve Davids" from Somerset West claims that he can help people obtain their learner's and driver's licences without doing a driving test as he works with the "driving examiner at the department".

According to George Municipality's senior communications officer Ntobeko Mangqwengqwe, this is a complete falsehood.

"This is certainly a scam and people must not fall for it. For one to get his/her learner's and/or driver's licence, one must get tested at the traffic department. The traffic department will follow up this matter to investigate."

George Herald contacted Davids via Facebook to find out how his system works, but the conversation was short-lived as one can only assume he realised he was speaking to a journalist after he had done some Facebook stalking.

George Herald is awaiting comment from Davids.
