Update
GEORGE NEWS - The man accused of murdering Wilderness businessman Gideon Mativo in 2016, appeared briefly in the Thembalethu Regional Court last Friday, 25 January.
The suspect, Charlie Windwaai (23), will appear in court again on 11 April when his trial is set to start. Mativo's body was found in a trench near Ballots Bay in Thembalethu on 12 July 2016, almost three weeks after he went missing on 25 June.
Windwaai has been in custody since his arrest shortly after Mativo's death. Mativo's abandoned car, a Nissan Qashqai, was found in a field in Thembalethu a few days after his disappearance.
His body, with several stab wounds, was found under leaves. Mativo, originally from Kenya, moved to Wilderness eight years before his death. He owned a jewellery store in the Eden Meander Lifestyle Centre.
