Businessman murder: No bail for accused

GEORGE NEWS - The man accused of murdering Wilderness businessman Gideon Mativo will stay behind bars.

Charlie Windwaai (21) made his second appearance in the George Magistrate's Court last week 28 July where he was denied bail.

Another suspect, Hannes Boshoff (27), linked only to theft from Mativo's Nissan Qashqai, also appeared for the second time on the same day and was also denied bail. Boshoff was charged with theft from a vehicle and the possession of stolen goods.

Mativo's body was found on 12 July in a ditch near Ballots Bay in Thembalethu, almost three weeks after he went missing on 25 June. His car was found deserted in a field in Thembalethu a few days after his disappearance. Mativo is originally from Kenya but moved to Wilderness some eight years ago.

South Cape Police Spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie said earlier this week that another man who the police are trying to connect to Mativo's murder, is currently in custody for another violation.

"He has not been formally charged with the murder," said Pojie. A third murder suspect is still at large.

Police also arrested another man (27) last week for theft from a vehicle and the possession of stolen goods relating to Mativo's Nissan Qashqai.

The suspect appeared in court and was released on a warning and will appear in court at a later stage.
