GEORGE NEWS - The police are looking for a man in his 30s after he allegedly tried to rape a woman (45) while she and her boyfriend were hitch-hiking to Graaff-Reinet on 20 March.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, the victim and her boyfriend were standing next to the N9 between the turn-off to Oudtshoorn and Herold.
"The suspect, a black male, approached the couple and attempted to rob the boyfriend of his phone. The boyfriend ran off and the suspect chased after him with a knife. Thereafter the suspect tried to sexually assault the victim in the field next to the road, but the boyfriend returned and chased the suspect away," said Pojie.

Girl (13) allegedly raped twice
In an unrelated incident a girl (13) was allegedly raped twice in one evening in Thembalethu on 23 February.
According to Pojie the victim and her friend were on their way home from Phelandaba in Zone 7 at approximately 19:00 when they were allegedly approached by four men.
"One of the men managed to grab the girl and started to strangle her. He pulled her into bushes next to Ngcakani Street and raped her. Afterwards the suspect allegedly pulled a beanie over her [the victim's] face, took her to a shack and raped her a second time," he said.
The victim managed to escape after the suspect left to fetch her some water.

Woman allegedly raped in Plett
A woman (31) was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law in Kwanokuthula in Plettenberg Bay at the end of last year. According to Pojie the victim said that she was sleeping and woke up while he was raping her.
A man called Ta Sbu has been reported to be able to assist with the investigation in this case. Anyone who has information about the incident can contact Sgt Dlambulo on 044 803 4639.
