GEORGE NEWS - Less than a month after a centre of Life Community Services in Thembalethu had been vandalised and robbed of R2 500 worth of items, vandals have struck again, not only at the very same centre, but also at the Life Village in Conville.
The incidents happened on Thursday night 30 April. "It appears that the timing was very close to each other and police have been notified and are investigating," said CEO Maryna de Vries.
This is a hard blow for Life, an NGO dedicated to the Christian education of over 300 children from the surrounding areas, including Thembalethu. Life also feeds and ministers to over 1 000 children each day. The Life Village opened in Conville last year after they had to move from premises they had rented for almost two decades.
The wanton damage in Thembalethu included the breakage of some windows, ripping off of the doors, breaking and strewing around of ministry material and furniture. "At the Life Village a hole was actually cut through the outer perimeter of a brick wall in order to gain access to the grounds," said De Vries.
Life requests that any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrating offender(s) be reported to the relevant police authorities.
"Our desire and hope is that we will succeed in continuing with the mission the Lord laid on our hearts, namely to touch the lives of the kids, and to mend the hearts of the broken, especially in this desperate time we are facing, not only in our country, but in the world," said De Vries.
Furniture and toys were strewn around.
Bars of the electrical fencing at Life Village were bent.
