GEORGE NEWSFLASH - On Wednesday 17 January, 14 learners of Imizamo Yethu Secondary School were placed on precautionary suspension.
This after the school principal reported the learners of posing a danger to each other.
Jessica Shelver, the spokesperson for the MEC for Education in the Western Cape, Debbie Schäfer, said that the learners were also likely to disrupt the school programme and put other learners at risk.
"The decision was taken in consultation with the learners’ parents and in the interest of learner safety at the school.
"Disciplinary action will be instituted in terms of the school's code of conduct against those who perpetrated violence at school," said Schäfer.
It is believed that the police confiscated drugs from the learners and that learners were involved in a gang-related violence.
However, the Themabalethu police said no drug operations or arrest were made at the school.
More information to follow as it becomes available.
