GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Georgians Claude Gose and Muzaffer Mohamed take their public responsibility seriously.
This is why they are running a project to collect clothes and other life necessities to hand out for free to the homeless.
They started collecting clothes about three months ago, promoting the project on Facebook. "We wanted to do something special so we involved our family, friends and clients from work," says Gose.
On Tuesday 23 July they made their first handout in the George CBD, distributing about six black bags of donated clothes from their car.
The interest was huge and according to Gose there were so many people jostling and fighting to get their fair share that they had to get law enforcement to maintain the peace. "We heard about the storm coming [there was a big downpour that afternoon] and wanted these people to at least have some warm clothes."
They put up posters on his car that the clothes were free and for the homeless. "We had about 40 people swarm around us within minutes. It was amazing," says Gose.

For their next hand-out they hope to acquire "sets" comprising a compact roll-up tent, sleeping bag and pillow to hand out to individuals. Anyone who wants to get involved can contact them on the Facebook page "Live Clean".
