GEORGE NEWS - Covid-19 lockdown has been a scourge on society across the world this year – but there may be one thing that actually benefitted from it – nature. And the ideal opportunity to judge for yourself is at this year’s George Open Gardens, to be held coming Saturday, 7 November, from 09:00 till 16:00.
George Open Gardens is in aid of BADISA. Tickets are R50 per adult and children enter free.
This year it will be a smaller event with (so far) five gardens participating. On show will be a smallholding garden, a garden with an amazing bonsai collection, a vegetable garden or two, a town garden with plants a mixed bag of existing exotics, indigenous plants bought from the botanical garden’s nursery, or propagated on site.
Tea, coffee and cake will be served at Fairview, 36 Stander Street - which is also where you can collect your tickets and maps from 09:00. Please bring an item of food (non-perishable) or second-hand clothing along - Badisa will pass these on to needy families where there are children still at home, and where jobs have been lost due to the ongoing health crisis.
If you are cash-strapped, don't be put off by the ticket price, come anyway - there will be some complimentary tickets available.
If the weather is bad, put on some sensible shoes, grab an umbrella and come - with all the time spent gardening during lockdown it is going to be a very special Open Gardens 2020. For photos, see the facebook page @Georgeopengardens.
