Update
GEORGE NEWS - The wildfire is active in several inaccessible areas and has moved through the established trigger points.
Crews from Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) have done well through the evening to prevent the wildfire from spreading to three (3) gorges closest to structures.
A reconnaissance flight was conducted at first light, and high priority areas were identified that require a renewed approach to upscale operations. An hour of aerial wildfire suppression will be implemented to assist ground teams.
This will aid firefighters in protecting infrastructure and suppressing areas stretching from west to east.
GRDM would like to extend a particular word of thanks to residents from the surrounding area who sourced and donated bottled water and energy drinks to firefighters. These donations have assisted firefighters and kept them hydrated. Thank you!
No lives lost or damage to infrastructure recorded to date.
Two bomber planes and a helicopter were activated through Western Cape Government. They were waterbombing the area yesterday, Sunday 23 January.
Roleplayers include GRDM, Cape Nature, WoF, SCFPA and local landowners.
GRDM Emergency Call Centre: 044 805 5071.
