GEORGE NEWS - Vivid, vibrant and radiant ladies from all over George arrived to celebrate George Child and Family Welfare's annual ladies tea held at Fancourt Hotel and Spa on Saturday 8 June.
The theme for this year's tea, held for the 12th time, was "A life in colour". Good Things Guy Brent Lindeque presented the proceedings with his signature brand of optimism and good vibes.
He was recently voted number four among South Africa's 100 most influential people, and it was his second time as speaker at the event.
Sue du Toit, director of George Child and Family Welfare, said it is the longest running welfare organisation in George. "Thanks to an overseas donor, another social worker has been employed, bringing the total to 12. It's much needed," she said.
"But the best news is that Sabine Plattner purchased a house where George Child and Family Welfare was able to establish its first cluster foster home which houses six children and their house mother."

With a monumental caseload, social workers are dealing with an average of 160 cases at any one time. The organisation currently renders supervision services to 750 children in foster care.
Someone who'd had first-hand experience of being in the system was the first speaker, local artist Riette Delport. She spoke of losing her mother at the tender age of two, after which she and her siblings were placed in an orphanage.

Delport said she learned to feel gratitude for her time in the orphanage where she was housed and fed, becoming aware over time that the alternative could have been far worse.
Fancourt Hotel and Spa sponsored the venue for the event, which hosted over 260 ladies. George Child and Family Welfare hopes to better the final income of R106 000 made last year, but will only know the final figure near the end of the month once their raffle is finalised (tickets are still available at their office).
