GEORGE NEWS - The Focus on Tourism has come at an opportune time to promote our readiness for the summer season which has brought a welcome breath of fresh air to the industry.
South Africa is off the red list for the United Kingdom as well as a number of other countries, and we have seen many news articles about international flights resuming.
We are ready to take our rightful place in the summer spotlight!
Tourism Conference
To get our products geared up for season, the tourism department will be hosting an online member conference to brush up on marketing and operating trends in the industry and bring back some contact from the SATSA Roadshow in Cape Town in November 2021.
Information offices
We are pleased to announce that the information offices are fully open in George and Wilderness, with extended hours during the high season. A virtual information service is available to visitors from Uniondale – dial 044 518 0030 for any Uniondale information required.
Maps and brochures are available to Uniondale members that wish to distribute these directly to guests.
Things to do
Printed copies of our Things to Do Brochure are available at the George and Wilderness tourism offices for establishments that wish to collect copies for their guests. You can find a copy on our website with a full list of members’ details and our events calendar - and don’t forget to read our latest blogs, showcasing unique activities and themes in the area.

Blue Flags and ocean awareness
George has been awarded no less than 3 Blue Flags this year – full status for Wilderness beach and pilot status for Victoria Bay and Herold’s Bay. To qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.
Central to the ideals of the Blue Flag programme is the aim of connecting the public with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about the environment and to create awareness of the importance of keeping the ocean pristine.
To supplement the awareness campaign, Tourism will again run the Take Five (and keep our seas alive) campaign.

Summer seasonal events
George kicks off its December events with a new-look revitalised George Tens, that now includes multiple sports: rugby, netball, golf and trail running. A girl’s social surf, hosted by our own Olympic silver medal winner, Bianca Buitendag, will be a highlight at Victoria Bay.
A wide array of craft markets, music festivals and art exhibitions will ensure a full range of activities and interesting routes to follow through the festive season.
Festive Season magazine
George Tourism has partnered with The Times of George to bring you a bumper edition festive season magazine with things to see and do in the area. The magazine also includes Wilderness and the Klein Karoo, for a full range of activities and places to visit in the holiday period and beyond.
Digital brochure
A new digital brochure has been launched for George, Wilderness and Uniondale Tourism with plenty of ideas on how to spend your summer. For a copy, send an e-mail to info@visitgeorge.co.za to get your own personal copy to your inbox.
