GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - A once emaciated pit bull, Sascha, found her forever home mere hours before South Africa went into lockdown at 24:00 on Thursday 26 March.
Sascha was found wondering in the Tamsui industrial area and was taken to the Garden Route SPCA in February this year.
Besides being nothing but skin and bone, Sascha was healthy, and two months later she looks like a completely different dog.
“I couldn’t image going into lockdown for 21 days without a dog,” said Sascha’s new human mother, Chereze Pretorius, this morning. “My husband and I have been discussing adopting a dog - and what better time than now? I am absolutely besotted with pit bulls. She has been with us for less than a day and she already rules the roost. We adore her and she loves playing outside with the children.”
“This is why we rescue. Stories like Sascha's are the fuel that keep us going every day. Thank you to everyone who helped us with her, including our good friends at the Herald,” said GRSPCA manager, Salomé Bruyns.
Journalist Kristy Kolberg joined part of their journey and accompanied the Pretorius family when they collected Sascha on Thursday. It seemed as if Sascha knew she was going home.
