GEORGE NEWS - The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that Parkdene Primary School has followed all the relevant procedures after cases of Covid-19 have been reported among pupils and teachers.
This morning, Wednesday 2 June, the school secretary said the acting head, the circuit manager and other role players were in a meeting, and she said she would pass on the request for information. However, George Herald received no response.
Departmental spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said the school has identified part of the building for cleaning today.
"Teaching and learning can continue despite this in the other parts of the school. The department only closes schools temporarily to accommodate cleaning requirements. This is not always necessary as in most cases, certain areas are identified specifically for cleaning."
She said the WCED is engaging with the Health Department to ensure that all relevant protocols are being followed at Parkdene Primary.
More information regarding the number of cases at the school has also been requested from the district health communications department, but this is still being awaited.
An unhappy, anonymous woman phoned the newspaper today to complain about the school still operating despite the positive cases.
