GEORGE NEWS - Arbor week will be celebrated at the Garden Route Botanical Garden with a tree plant sale from 1 to 7 September.
Colourful trees and plants will be on sale at the nursery. Come view over 70 indigenous trees especially sourced from far and wide for the Arbor Week sale. All the trees in stock are suitable for growing in the Garden Route.
There are excellent trees for the bird garden, a small garden and some rare and hard-to-find forest trees for discerning buyers. Selected trees and shrubs have been marked down by 20%.
As it is the first day of spring, there will also be a colourful range of indigenous shrubs and plants on sale, including a large selection of Proteacea and other fynbos plants.
The Getafix Garden Café will be open for refreshments. The garden is open daily from 08:30 till 16:30 and on Saturday morning from 08:30 to 14:00, but is closed on Sunday.
For further enquiries, contact Fadia at the office on 044 874 1558 or send an e-mail to infor@botanicalgarden.org.za. The Garden Route Botanical Garden is at 49 Caledon Street, George.
On Thursday 14 September, a group of visiting Japanese dignitaries will partake in a tree planting ceremony as part of a tradition that was begun in 2008.
The group view this as a way of establishing cultural ties. A stone planted to commemorate the occasion proclaims the aspiration of this tradition: "Our hope is for world-wide peace, harmony and prosperity."
