GEORGE NEWS - Seven alleged thieves were removed from the streets after they were apprehended by members of Wilderness Defense Force (WDF) in Victoria Bay on Sunday morning, 19 November.
According to the general manager of WDF, Adolf Pretorius, their control room received a panic alert from one of the security officers stationed in Victoria Bay.
"WDF armed response officers swiftly reacted to the call. With the assistance of the WDF CCTV control room in Wilderness, we received live communication on the whereabouts of the alleged perpetrators," he said.
Two armed officers, Jaco Claasen and Edwano Malgas, were briefed on a reported criminal breaking into a container at the circle. They performed a perimeter search and notified the police.
Positive identification of the criminals from CCTV footage led the WDF officers to a silver VW Polo as it was leaving the scene.
The officers pulled over the vehicle and kept the alleged thieves, four men and three women, stationary until the police arrived.
"Special acknowledgment goes to our armed response officers whose tactical prowess facilitated the interception. The collaborative efforts by the officers and the rapid response from the control room led to the subsequent arrest of all suspects," said Pretorius.
