GEORGE NEWS - Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) has denied rumours that the solar plant at George Airport is not in use because it is not compatible with the batteries installed with it.
In response to a query from the newspaper, Acsa said, "The solar plant installed at George Airport is a grid-tied solar plant which does not have batteries.
During load-shedding, the airport makes use of generators to supply essential power for all airport operations. Acsa is in the next phase of our solar plant upgrade which will include batteries. The implementation process will be completed within the next 24 months.
"At present, Acsa is working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that all airport operations are fully functional and that as little disruption to passenger movements as possible is caused. Acsa prioritises the safety and well-being of all passengers, which is why we always welcome and appreciate any feedback from passengers in order to improve customer experience during their travel journey."
ILS working again
Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) confirmed that the instrument landing systems at the airport, that were suspended during April, are live again.
George Airport was one of a number of airports in the country where the use of some air navigation systems were suspended by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (Sacaa) following an audit of South Africa's civil aviation system by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao).
