GEORGE NEWS - Three men were shot and killed in Thembalethu in two unrelated incidents over the weekend.
On Sunday evening, 21 November, the owner of the popular Shamza's Tshisanyama (braai place) in Thembalethu, Sibongile Njoli (34), was shot and killed at the business in Qhawa Street, Zone 9.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, witnesses say three armed assailants walked up to Njoli and two of his friends who were with him at their braai spot.
They opened fire on the unsuspecting victims, killing Njoli and wounding one other victim who later died in the hospital due to his injuries. The female friend escaped unharmed. Njoli was found dead on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds to his head and upper body.
The other man (23) had gunshot wounds to his left arm, stomach and chest.

Pacaltsdorp man killed in Themba tavern
Earlier that weekend, a man from Pacaltsdorp, Mario Noordman (30), was shot and killed at the Inn Tavern in Zone 7, Thembalethu where he worked. When police arrived at approximately 21:30 they found Noordman on the floor with a single gunshot wound under his right eye.
"A spent cartridge was also found next to the deceased. There were no other people or witnesses on the premises when members arrived as seemingly the business had closed for the day," said Pojie.
The motives for both incidents are currently unknown and form part of the investigations.
