ELECTION NEWS - Those who were unable to vote on Wednesday - whether they were elsewhere in the country or physically unable to vote at a voting station - had a chance to cast a special vote earlier this week.
IEC officials, accompanied by the police and agents representing political parties, made their rounds to the different venues in George where groups had registered to vote. JJ Watson Old Age Home and Emmaüs were among the places visited by the teams. Ina Erasmus (76) of JJ Watson said she enjoyed voting as it is so much easier for an elderly person to vote at their own residency.
"We are very satisfied with their service, everything went smoothly," she said. Anne-Marié Mulder (57) of Emmaüs said it was a wonderful opportunity. "Everything was explained to us, it was quite easy," she said.
Wessel van Heerden, digital coordinator of Group Editors, is currently in Cape Town at the IEC Results Centre to capture the news as it happens for online distribution on the websites of George Herald and all its sister papers. He made his mark on Monday before he scooted off to the big city.

For many, casting a special vote is a welcome option when you know you won't be around on voting day.
