GEORGE NEWS - The trial of a man accused of a brutal revenge attack that left a young Lawaaikamp woman permanently disabled has been postponed to Wednesday 29 July in the George Regional Court.
The matter was last in court on 19 June, when the proceedings were postponed to continue later this month.
The victim, Sivenathi 'Sive' Toto, was just 23 when she was attacked in Lawaaikamp on 26 August 2022.
According to the reports, the accused, Shaun Madonono (26), had earlier been involved in an altercation with her boyfriend, which he allegedly lost. In retaliation, he allegedly broke into Toto's home, dragged her to his residence and assaulted her until she lost consciousness.
She was allegedly dumped near a petrol station on Nelson Mandela Boulevard, where a petrol attendant later found her, and she was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
The attack left Toto with severe brain damage.
She is now non-verbal, permanently wheelchair-bound and entirely dependent on others for her daily care.
Madonono, who is out on bail, faces charges of assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm, kidnapping and housebreaking.
