GEORGE NEWS - A joint roadblock in George on Friday, 14 August resulted in 168 cases being recorded and fines totalling R98 500 as law enforcement agencies stepped up their efforts to promote road safety and compliance with traffic legislation.
The two-hour operation, conducted between 10:00 and 12:00, was arranged by George Municipality and involved officials from the municipality’s community safety and mobility department, the police, immigration and Western Cape provincial road safety and education.
One vehicle was impounded for being operated without a permit, while the owner of an unroadworthy vehicle was issued a notice to discontinue operation.
Two arrests were also made in connection with undocumented persons.
George Municipality said the joint operation formed part of its ongoing efforts to improve road safety, strengthen enforcement and ensure that motorists and other road users comply with the law.
