GEORGE NEWS - The George Business Chamber is proud to announce the 2024 launch of one of its flagship initiatives, The Entrepreneur.
Now in its second year, the programme is designed to foster growth and success among selected local businesses.
Supported by Airports Company South Africa (Acsa), it aims to provide an unparalleled opportunity for businesses in the George and greater Garden Route region to thrive.
The programme includes a comprehensive business training and mentorship initiative for local businesses that have been in operation for more than a year, with an annual turnover of up to R6m.
Inspired by the successful model implemented 14 years ago by the iLembe Chamber in Ballito, this programme aims to replicate and build upon its achievements in the George area.
The core objective is to empower the local economic landscape through entrepreneurs with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to elevate their businesses and fast-track their success.
"George Herald will once again be the official media partner of this initiative," said Group Editors CEO Servaas de Kock. "We as a business support the development and nurturing of new leaders, and would like to see new entrepreneurs grow their businesses and contribute to the economy of George."
Programme structure
Over the course of seven Saturdays, starting on 3 August, from 09:00 to 13:00, selected participants will take part in intensive training sessions by business management specialists. This involves all facets of business operations, including creating an online presence, marketing strategies, and overall business management.
At the end of the programme participants are expected to complete a business plan and will present their businesses to an adjudication committee early in November.
Supported by George Municipality
During the launch of the event on Wednesday 26 June, George Mayor Jackie von Brandis said the municipality backs the programme 100%.
"George Municipality and local businesses have a good relationship and the municipality will continue to see how we can make it easy for businesses in George to do business.
"I am committed to work with the chamber and businesses to further this relationship. We support The Entrepreneur initiative," she said.
The role of Acsa
Acsa is the main sponsor of the programme, and has been a steadfast supporter of entrepreneurial initiatives.
"Acsa is committed to fostering entrepre-neurship and business growth within the communities we serve.
"By partnering with the George Business Chamber for The Entrepreneur programme, we aim to provide local businesses with the tools and mentorship necessary to succeed.
"We believe that empowering entrepreneurs is key to stimulating economic development and job creation in the George region. This programme represents an exciting opportunity for businesses to gain the knowledge and skills they need to thrive," said Brenda Vorster, George Airport manager.
