BUSINESS NEWS - The Garden Route Botanical Garden Trust will host the first annual Garden Route Indigenous Plant Fair at the first weekend in November.
The plant fair will be open at the following times: Friday 3 November from 09:00 until 19:00, Saturday from 10:00 until 19:00 and Sunday 09:00 until 14:00.
It will take place in the area in front of the Gazebo, just north of the Van Kervel Dam. There will be free entry into the botanical garden for the duration of the fair.
The main focus of the fair will be the sale of indigenous plants, including many different kinds of locally indigenous trees and shrubs. There will be a wide variety of flowering plants and fynbos for sale; in fact, due to the nature of the area, there will be a special focus on the fynbos plants, and the plan is to stock a considerable variety of pincushions, proteas, restios and buchus, as well as many other fynbos plants to be sold at the indigenous plant fair. Plant specialists will be on hand to assist you with finding the plants that you are interested in, and to advise you about the plants that will suit your requirements and the size and conditions of your garden.
There will be many indigenous fynbos species, cone bushes, proteas and pincushions available for sale at the fair.
Apart from all the different plant species, the fair will include a cosy marketplace where you can enjoy fresh food and local crafts, including botanical crafts and garden accessories. There will be a beer tent with a cash bar and an artist performing live music. In between there will be various talks on gardening with indigenous plants and attracting wildlife and birds to your garden. A kiddies play area with a jumping castle and pony rides will be available to keep the children busy while their parents enjoy the market and the plant sale.
Beer tasting, gin tasting and wine tasting will be held at the Il Giardino restaurant and tea garden, which can be reached through the Protea Gate entrance to the botanical garden at 49 Caledon Street, Camphersdrift, George.
