Water restoration efforts continue in Wilderness and surrounds

WILDERNESS NEWS - According to a statement by George Municipality, teams worked through the night to restore water supply to affected communities in Wilderness, Kleinkrantz, Sands Road and surrounding areas.

Steady progress has been made as key repairs were finalised.

Technical update

Municipal engineers successfully repaired the faulty valve on the pipeline at the Kaaimans Railway Bridge on Thursday night. Water flow to the Ebb & Flow Reservoir has since been re-established via both the 200mm main supply line and the temporary 100mm line.

On Friday morning, operations teams began implementing further network adjustments to restore supply to Kleinkrantz, Sands Road and the Wilderness CBD. These adjustments are still underway.

The Municipality has also reported a 75mm pipe burst in the Commonage area. A team has been dispatched and repairs are currently in progress.

Areas still affected

Residents in Kleinkrantz, Sands Road and the Wilderness CBD remain without full water supply as work continues.

Discoloured water warning

The Municipality has cautioned that tap water may appear brown or discoloured as flow resumes, and urges residents to allow the water to run clear before use.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank residents for their patience as our teams work to stabilise the system,” the statement reads.

Appeal for water donations

Executive Mayor Alderman Browen Johnson has renewed his call for residents and businesses to donate 5-litre bottled water through the Community Relief Forum, to be delivered directly to affected homes.
