GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Dam has dropped slightly over the past week as dry winter weather persists, while George Municipality has reminded residents that Level 2B water restrictions remain in place, including winter watering times for gardens.
Garden Route Dam declines slightly
- George Municipality's latest weekly water statistics, released on 14 July, show the Garden Route Dam is currently 97.12% full, down from 98.16% a week ago.
- Only 4.2mm of rainfall was recorded during the past week, contributing to the slight decline in dam levels.
- The municipality said the current water supply equates to approximately 44 weeks of available water. This figure includes only water that can be pumped and treated, with water below the intake and treatment level excluded.
- Current daily water demand stands at 33.5 million litres per day (MLD), below the municipality's target demand of 36 MLD.
Haarlem Dam remains full
- The Haarlem Dam remains full at 100.83%, compared with 101.07% the previous week. No rainfall was recorded in the Haarlem catchment during the past week.
Winter watering times remain in effect
George Municipality has reminded residents that Level 2B water demand management measures remain in force.
During winter, gardens may only be watered between 17:00 and 19:00 using a handheld hose on the following allocated days:
- Even-numbered properties: Mondays and Thursdays
- Odd-numbered properties: Tuesdays and Fridays
Residents are urged to continue using water responsibly, despite dam levels remaining high, as every drop still counts during the dry winter season.
