The business people in the running were nominated by the public. Each nominee then provided a biography and motivation of excellence in their respective fields. For the first time in the history of the awards, public participation is included in the judging process. Each and every resident of George is invited to participate, by voting for a business person in the respective categories. The only category decided by the independent judging panel alone is the GBC Informal Trader of the year.
