ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Next Wednesday's lunch hour concert in the Dutch Reformed Mother Church will feature two exciting young musicians.
Pianist and cellist Throy Petersen, who grew up in George, together with Cape Town-born violist Lynn Daphne Rudolph, will present a programme that includes pieces in the contemporary classical idiom that showcase the potential of their instruments.
And, as a treat to the audience, they will do some improvisations.
Throy Petersen holds a B Mus Hons (Performance) from Stellenbosch University and is currently studying towards a Masters in Collaborative Arts at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University's Peabody Institute in Baltimore, USA, holding its Premier Talent Scholarship. Besides his classical abilities, he has also collaborated in contemporary projects.
In 2017, he was assistant musical director of the musical Prinz Bettliegend, and in 2019 he was a vocal coach, rehearsal pianist and stage cellist for the multi-award-winning Jakkals en Wolf, commissioned for the KKNK.
He has also been commissioned to compose works for a South African film set to debut at the Montreal Film Festival.

Lynn Daphne Rudolph is in much demand after being named the Young Rising Star of the Endler Concert Series 2020. She has collaborated with award-winning ensembles and artists of various genres, including the Cape Town Baroque Orchestra and Stellenbosch Camerata, as well as international artists Pinchas Zuckermann, Joshua Bell and Zolani Mahola.
She is passionate about promoting the work of South African composers, and has commissioned an Afro-feminist work by Arthur Feder, which will be premiered at the end of 2021.
She is currently a master's performance student at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) and is a member of the Gqeberha String Quartet.
Some of the items on their programme are Blues for Benni by Eduard Pütz, the first movement of the Rebecca Clarke viola sonata and Trois Piéces by Nadia Boulanger. And don't forget the improvisations!
The concert takes place between 13:00 and 14:00 on Wednesday 27 October. Entry is free, but donations will be greatly appreciated. Please wear your mask.
