Dancers from all over the Western Cape gathered to compete for the title of Western Cape Champion. Dancers from Randall's South Cape Dance Academy were among the 450 couples to compete at this event. Jadrin Maduna and Francoiray Brink brought home two titles and are now the Western Cape Champions in the Youth Pre-Championship division. They also received top honours as Western Cape 10 Dance pre-championship champions.
Jamil Rhode and Verna-Lee Arries were placed fifth in the Ballroom Category and third in the Latin division. Gurchwin Williams and Kirsten Avontuur achieved a result of third place in both genres. Dominic Fourie and Annelie Hugo were placed second in ballroom and were crowned the Western Cape Champions in the Youth Novice Latin division. Coach and Dance Master Randall Raubenheimer, said that the high quality of dancing surpassed expectation, but that the dancers from his studio could do well, based on excellent technical ability and musical charisma.
The team is preparing for the South African National Championship to be held in the Limpopo Province next month. A plea for donations towards accommodating the costs for dancers has been sent to several institutions and also to the Mayor of George. Raubenheimer says that he is confident that the community of George will support the dancers and has every confidence that the athletes will perform at their peak at the South African Championships
The championship, in the spirit of bringing Ballroom and Latin Dance to the people, was held at the indoor sport complex in Khayalitsha, Cape Town.
