adrin Maduna and Francoiray Brink, members of the South Cape Dance Academy, were the winners of the samba and cha-cha in the championship division.
The academy's four competitive couples set a standard of excellence among the almost 1 000 couples to compete in the Fedansa National Inter Provincial Championships. 2013 saw the Western Cape play host to the South Cape Dance Academy, who yet again had the opportunity to showcase talent from this region. Dance master Dr Randall Raubenheimer said that in the 10 years of the dance studio's existence this was most probably the most successful competition.
"Jadrin Maduna and Francoiray Brink, who danced this very competition as champions in their age division, surprised all by making it to the final of their event, beating most of the top athletes in this division and ending up in second place against the now number one couple in South Africa."
They also got first place from two adjudicators in all five dances and were the winners of the samba and cha-cha - a great result for Jadrin and Francoiray and needless to say one that will go down in the history books as they are the first youth couple from our studio to make it to a final and end up in the top two positions. The hard work however starts now as Jadrin and Francoiray need to face most of these dancers at the South African National Championships come December to be held in Durban, KZN.
Keegan America and Marle van der Berg, from the South Cape Dance Academy's sister studio in Oudtshoorn, scooped up first place in both the ballroom and Latin American genre, winning all 10 dances in their youth pre-championship division. While Ian Grobler and Karien Jordaan had to face the longest competition in terms of time in their short dance careers, they could establish themselves as second runners up in both their ballroom and Latin section. "I was yet again humbled by this experience and the atmosphere amongst dancers and coaches were that of cohesion to the benefit of the sport," said Raubenheimer. The Western Cape Province won the team match and the formation and established themselves as the best in South Africa for the ninth year running.
