They returned from the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) summer school in Port Elizabeth feeling inspired.
They enjoyed interacting with 80 other choristers from around South Africa. Heather Stead, a choral spokesperson, said, "The choir would like to warmly thank St Mark's Cathedral for supporting our choristers and Fr Darian who attended the RSCM at the beginning of January. It was a fascinating, stimulating and exhausting week. Can you imagine singing six hours of every day, and standing for about three hours each day?
"We sang our hearts and feet out but have returned to St Mark's renewed and reinvigo-rated to fulfil our task of making worship in our cathedral meaningful and enriched musically."
Stead concluded by saying, "Andrew Reid, the current UK director of RSCM International, had an amazing depth of knowledge of the history and nuances of Anglican Church music and tremendous patience to work with 60 adult choir members and 20 children from all over SA with varied skill levels. Together with Fr Darian and Amelia van der Merwe we look forward to sharing the music and skills we have learnt from this experience especially with youngsters keen to sing."
