GEORGE SWIMMING NEWS - Local Grand Master swimmer (age 70+), Mike McDonald, not only returned with a medal from the National Biathlon Championships in Oudtshoorn, he also broke the SA record for his event in the age group 75 - 79.
"This is a remarkable achievement as he is new to this event (400m run and 50m swim)," said chairperson of the Fish Eagles Masters swimming club, Cheryl Griffiths.
McDonald, fondly known as Uncle Mike, is a retired dentist from Pretoria who moved to the Garden Route a few years ago.
"He is a keen gardener, great swimmer and now we have found he runs well too. He has made the club very proud by beating the SA Biathlon record in the Grand Masters (70+ age) by 15 points," said Griffiths.
