GEORGE NEWS - The Eden Tecnifibre Grand Prix was held in George from 30 April to 3 May, drawing top junior and senior tennis talent from across South Africa.
As part of the national Grand Prix circuit, each province hosts one tournament annually, and the results contribute to the players’ official national rankings.
A total of 189 players competed across six venues, with age groups ranging from U10 to open men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions. The tournament delivered a consistently high standard of play, with competitive matches and strong performances throughout the four-day event.
Among the standout results, Tamere Stewart claimed the girls’ U16 title, while Zoran Meyer secured victory in the boys’ U12 singles and also featured among the boys’ U12 doubles winners alongside a Cape Town partner. In the boys’ U10 division, Lian Steyn took top honours, with Rocco van Niekerk finishing as runner-up. The pair later combined to win the boys’ U10 doubles title.

In doubles action, Joshua Woudberg and Max Botha won the boys’ U14 title, with Raysean Appels and Carter Farrell finishing as runners-up. In the girls’ U12 doubles, Elene Markam and Mia Steyls finished as runners-up. Meanwhile, William Stones and Sebastian Pieterse placed second in the boys’ U10 doubles.

The tournament’s organiser, Lizelle Fourie of the Great Tennis Academy in George, expressed her appreciation of the players, coaches, parents and officials whose contributions ensured the event’s success, which once again highlighted the depth of tennis talent across the country.
