GEORGE NEWS - George is becoming an incubator of Springbok rugby players with Sedwin Gysman (17) of Parkdene proving to be one of the city's newest rising stars.
The Grade 11 learner at Eden Technical High School has just been one of those selected out of 2 700 rugby players from schools across South Africa to take part in an international sports tour to Italy from 21 to 30 September this year.
This promising young centre started playing rugby at the age of five at Parkdene Crèche. His hero is Damian Willemse, two-time World Cup winner and utility back with the Stormers.
"I practise four times a week because I know success comes from hard work.
"I'm very keen to take part in the tournament in Verona and Lignano in order to build a solid rugby track record," says Sedwin.
Sedwin scored the most tries for his team during the u.19 tournament which took place during Easter at Outeniqua Park. He is now preparing for the u.18 Academy Week in Johannesburg from 24 to 28 June.
"Sedwin is one of the top scorers at Eden THS and is the first player to be selected for the u.18 Academic rugby team in SWD in eight years.
"He has a promising future ahead of him. This can be seen in his discipline and coachability," says Richard Brunsdon, Eden THS rugby coach.
However, this potential Springbok might not be able to make the tour to Italy if he is unable to raise the R50 000 needed for travelling costs. Potential sponsors can contact his mother, Julina Gysman, on 082 269 8729.
