GEORGE NEWS - The George Business Chamber reflected on a year of growth, resilience and community impact during its AGM on Thursday 18 June, while also setting its sights on several new initiatives for 2026.
The chairperson, Johannes Jumat, said the chamber's focus is not simply on exposure, but on making a meaningful impact within the local business community.
"Every year brings its own storms, moments that test us, stretch us, and quietly ask whether we are equal to the task. Every year, without fail, the George Business Chamber has answered that question," he said.
Jumat described the AGM as an opportunity to reflect on lessons learnt, to celebrate successes and to strengthen a business community that continues to move forward together.
Guest speaker Dr Willie Cilliers, chairperson of the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI) Western Cape, highlighted the importance of collaboration between business and government to drive economic growth and job creation.
Having played a key role in the Western Cape Government's Growth for Jobs strategy, Cilliers said chambers of commerce would be important partners in implementing this initiative.
He encouraged businesses to think innovatively, create entrepreneurial opportunities, and invest in mentoring and training.
Cilliers also challenged the George Business Chamber to raise its standards and position itself as one of the leading chambers in the province.
The chamber had several projects planned for the year, including a Pro-Am Golf Day following the success of the inaugural event, the launch of Women Connect, and the development of Impact Warrior, a platform aimed at recognising individuals who drive results behind the scenes in business.
Progress is also being made on GEO, the chamber's official mascot, while the planning continues for a gala and awards evening to celebrate local business achievements.
In addition, the chamber is preparing to relocate to a larger premises that will not only accommodate its growth, but also provide a dedicated space that members may utilise.
