MARTIAL ARTS NEWS & VIDEO - A total of 11 mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from George, under the wing of their coach Robert Harris from Bear Fight Club Academy, took part in the EP Classic Martial Arts Championships in Despatch last weekend.
Ryan Hodgson (23) won the seniors MMA and grappling heavy weight divisions.
His teammate, Luke Fogle (18) took the win in the seniors MMA and grappling light heavy weight divisions, while James Luhanga (36) won the seniors grappling middle weight division and the seniors grappling grand championship.
Eric Pike (17) grabbed a gold in the grappling middle weight division in his age group and also won MMA boys 17, middle weight.
The tiny tots also flexed their muscles with Niva Hodgson (6) winning the grappling division in her age group.
Her teammate, Sienna Pike (6) won a third place for grappling in her age group and Garbriel Oelofse (4) took a second place for grappling in the age group boys age six. In the older age groups Anita van den Heever (11) won first places in her age group for submission grappling, MMA, high kick challenge and power breaking.
Christelle van den Heever (9) also excelled and took the gold in her age group for submission grappling, MMA and power breaking. She managed a third place in the high kick challenge.
Young Christiaan van den Heever (7) impressed by taking a first place for submission grappling in his age group, a first in MMA, and a second place in power breaking for boys under the age of eight.
Another seven-year-old, WJ Serfontein, took gold in submission grappling in his age group and a third place in power breaking for boys under eight years old.
"We are tremendously proud of all our students. They showed what they had in them and gave their best on the day," said Harris.
