GEORGE NEWS - The newly found South Africa Ryukyu Kobudo Federation (SAKF) held its inauguration tournament in Cape Town last weekend.
This first national tournament drew entries from Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Southern Cape and Western Province, who all contributed to placing this ancient art called Kobudo firmly on the map with all the other martial arts in South Africa.
The tournament was opened by the president of SAKF, sensei Jannie le Grange, who thanked the organisers, judges and officials for their contribution and commitment to make it a historical and memorable event.
George locals who received gold medals were Minnaar van Rooyen, RC Coetzee, Ernie Heyter and Karin Fouché. Silver medals went to Gareth Steinmann, Richardu Janse van Rensburg, Michael McLellan, and Conner Smith, while bronze were taken by Jason van Tonder, Sieg Minnie and Amanda Rosser.
A team will leave for Okinawa during July this year to take part in the World Okinawa Karate and Kobudo tournament in Naha City.
