GEORGE KARATE NEWS - The George Okinawa Goju Ryu entered a 15-member team at the South African Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate nationals which was hosted at the Koetzenburg Hall in Stellenbosh last weekend.
Honours went to the Southern Cape black belts who took the first three places in the Kumite division. Johan van Niekerk took gold with Sieg Minnie junior in the second place and Rual Viviers from Oudtshoorn in third.
A well-deserved red gold medal went to Sieg Minnie senior in the Kyu Grade veterans division.
Juniors who received gold medals were: Jody Tarloff (Iri Kumi), Minnaar van Rooyen (Kata) and Taryn Barnett (Kata) with Richardu Janse van Rensburg taking gold in both the two fighting divisions.
Silver and bronze medals went to Jason van Tonder, Justin and Simone Stander, Lianke Barkhuysen, Bosman and Janko Joubert, Lyle Fitzmaurice and Adriaan Zeelie.
It was a great tour with each member bringing home a medal under the excellent guidance of the team manager, Sheila Janse van Rensburg.
