GEORGE NEWS - George Okinawa Goju Ryu Karate and Kobudo hosted its first tournament since the start of the Covid pandemic last weekend.
The event was well supported by local athletes with entries from Gqeberha and Cape Town.
Individual kata was performed in fine style while the team kata events displayed fine sportsmanship among the athletes. The highlight of the day was the black belt kata events followed by the kobudo (weaponry art) divisions. The organisers thank both competitors and judges for their spontaneous support.
In the u.12 boys kata Hanru van der Merwe was first, Rhuzaan Pretorius second, Stefan Lindeque third and Evert le Roux fourth.

In the unison team event u.16, the first place was claimed by Sedgefield (led by Francois Rousseau), second place by George (led by Lianke Barkhuysen) and the third place by Gqeberha (led by Faith Ferg).
The veteran men also competed. In first place was Glen Smith, second place Ernest Ferg and third place Stephen Stead, followed by Sieg Minnie and Ettienne Harris.
