GEORGE NEWS - The Enigma Sports Martial Arts Club in George, under the leadership of Sensei Wesley Blinkhorn, performed very well at the annual SA Sport Martial Arts Championship that was held on 28 and 29 September at Coetzenburg sports centre in Stellenbosch.
The medal winners, who all qualified for the World Sports Martial Arts Championship in Orlando next year, were:
Gianni Snyman (gold - points sparring: men's novice 74 - 85kg, silver - continuous sparring); Ronwill Julies (silver - points sparring: boys 16-17 intermediate), Aiden Armstrong (gold - MMA light: boys 16-17 advanced, bronze - points sparring: boys 16-17 advanced, bronze - grappling: boys 16-17 advanced, silver - breaking 12 roof tiles); Luciano Harmse (bronze - points sparring: boys 16-17 intermediate, Grand Champion in open points sparring: boys 16-17 intermediate), Sensei Wesley Blinkhorn (men's Grand Champion black belt open), Cornel Kroon (bronze - creative weapons: boys 12-14 black belt), Lorenzo Booysen (Grand Champion traditional creative kata: boys 16-17 intermediate, gold - traditional kata: boys 16-17 intermediate, silver - points sparring: boys 16-17 intermediate), Carla Neto (gold - traditional weapons kata: new SA record, and set the record in the women's division at 15 roof tiles).
