GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Five riders from the Eden District fared extremely well despite fierce competition in the national finals of the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) which took place at Misty Meadows in Rayton, Pretoria in September.
It was a gathering of only the best of the best with in excess of 500 participants from primary and high schools from around the country after qualifying at various events through the year.
The Eden riders were selected to be part of the Western Cape team in many riding disciplines including dressage, prix caprilli, show jumping and showing. This on its own is a great achievement as the Eden riders made up 30% of the Western Cape team.
These five riders did the Eden District, their schools, the Western Cape and themselves proud. Competition was stiff and some classes had more than 40 competitors.
Despite this, they all achieved noteworthy achievements in terms of individual rosettes for the following:
• Edrich Strauss:
3rd out of 9 riders for Level 3 Dressage Freestyle; and
6th out of 24 riders for Prix Caprilli Level 3
• Jean-Mari Janse van Rensburg:
6th out of 39 riders for Prix Caprilli Level 1
• Cienna Erfmann:
3rd out of 41 riders for dressage Prelim 4;
3rd out of 27 riders for Prix Caprilli Level 1, test 3 and
8th out of 31 riders for Performance riding level 1.
In addition to the individual results, the riders collectively received 5 first place team rosettes, 3 second place team rosettes, 3 third place team rosettes and 8 fourth place rosettes.
