CYCLING NEWS - Concurrently with world champ cyclist Willie Marx celebrating his 80th birthday last Thursday, 23 March, Rush Sports ran an exciting competition where a R10 000 Apex Pro was the grand prize.
At Willie's 80th birthday party, well-known Springbok sprinter Martin Nefdt, who travelled from Gqeberha to join the celebrations, drew the lucky winner from the box of entries.
Marx stays at Tuiniqua Care Centre.
Ann Spies was the lucky winner of the Apex Pro. However, she decided to donate it to deserving candidate Shawn Maritz from George, who had been dreaming about this bicycle for some time.
Shawn could not believe his luck when Marlene Marx of Willie Marx Cycles phoned him to give him the good news. And the timing was perfect, as Shawn celebrated his 24th birthday on Monday 27 March.
Shawn intends doing the Cape Town Cycles Tour in 2024 on his new Apex Pro.
A delighted Shawn Maritz receives his dream bike from Ann Spies.
