GEORGE NEWS - Swimmers of Garden Route Swim School (GRSS) enjoyed their annual award ceremony last Saturday, 26 August at the George Civic Centre, where they were honoured for their achievements and participation during the last swimming season.
The hall looked beautiful and families literally had a ball on the dance floor after the formal proceedings, with some old fashioned boeresokkie. Ballroom dancers of Lizette van Wyk's academy opened the floor, showcasing their talent.
Accolades and chocolates
Every swimmer, from those enrolled for learn-to-swim classes, to the national champions, received certificates and a slab chocolate.
Three floating trophies went to the following achievers: Renier van Greunen (16) for the Best National Swimmer, Wido Rudolph (17) for the Best SA Schools Swimmer and Minke Janse van Rensburg (18), for the Best Swimmer with a Disability.
Renier qualified for a SA Senior A-level time, and he participated in the Junior National Championships, where he received a gold medal for the 50m breast stroke.
He holds SA Senior B-level times for 50m and 100m breast stroke.
Wido participated in the SA Senior National Championships, where he swam SA Senior B-level times for 50m and 100m breast stroke. For the SA Schools he received two gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

"We have big plans for the coming season, where we want to give trophies for the top swimmers in each level," said owner and coach Franna Vorster.
"In the end we had so much fun and we are all looking forward to the next chapter in our journey."
