GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - Paris United coach Zolani Wilberforce Makendlana is the only person from the Eden Region to be called up for the exciting duties of provincial team manager.
As Western Cape u.15 team manager he will be working closely with the former Premier Soccer League coach, Abubajar Bobie Solomons. Makendlana, who has formerly coached a number of clubs in the PSL such as Wits University FC, Santos, Bloemfontein Celtics and Ajax Cape FC, has completed the D License coaching development programme.
The Western Cape boys u.15 will be in Durban during the school holidays from 30 June to 5 July.
Idinga chatted to the promising young coach
Idinga: What went through your mind when your name was called as the team manager?
Makendlana: I felt so surprised when my name was called as manager of u.15 boys Western Cape. Eish, it was like I am dreaming because I didn't expect this to happen so soon. I would like to thank our chairperson for trusting me to go and coach Eden Region's u.15 boys in Cape Town on 25 May. If he hadn't given me that opportunity, I would definitely not have been made part of the team.
Idinga: Where do you see yourself as a young coach?
Makendlana: I want to see myself going beyond boundaries, coaching one of the top teams in big leagues such as National first division and PSL. I think every coach wishes to achieve the next level.
Idinga: As a young coach, what is your advice to the upcoming coaches in your region?
Makendlana: Stay positive and be patient and try to understand the philosophy of football development. Be patient while you're junior coaches - one day the door will open for you.
