GEORGE FOOTBALL NEWS - The George Local Football Association league (Geolfa) resumed its junior league last weekend after it was suspended a few weeks ago due to the pandemic and the country being placed back on Alert Level 4.
Burning Fire (Umlilo) u.15 played a 1-1 draw against Young Pirates u.15 on Sunday afternoon, 22 August at Thembalethu Stadium. The two goals were netted by Lukho Jantjies for Young Pirates and Christopher Williams for Umlilo.
The game got off to a good start with Burning Fire launching the first attack on the right side of the field. Both teams continued to play attacking football. Umlilo received an early chance when they were awarded a penalty. Their goalkeeper took the kick but missed, his shot going far past the goal.
Young Pirates came back with a counter-attack from the centre of the field, but the shot went over the goalpost. Both teams failed to break the net in the first half of the game.
The second half started at a high tempo with Burning Fire launching the first attack during of the second half.
However, their attempt went wide, missing the target. Lukho Jantjies (Young Pirates) scored the first goal of the game. Both sides were looking for more goals but it was Christopher Williams of Burning Fire who netted a marvellous equalising goal, changing the score to 1-1 in the last minutes of the game.
The talented young boys from both teams were chasing the goal that would hand them the game. Young Pirates had their last chance of the game when Ayabulela Ggebe played a beautiful cross inside the box, but his teammate Lukho Jantjies missed the opportunity.
During the remainder of the game both sides failed to score from their clear-cut chances and the game ended in a draw.
