GEORGE NEWS - Local supporters were following the Western Cape Women's League provincial playoffs with the greatest interest last weekend, not so much to watch the soccer as to see the performance of our youngest export in the referee market, 17-year-old Yamnkela Duma.
The Grade 10 learner from Jonga High School was invited to represent the Eden Region as assistant referee (AR) at the playoffs in Gansbaai in the Overberg Region.
Commenting after the games, Duma said his dream is to become one of the best match officials in the Eden Region and follow in the footsteps of the Eden Region top six match officials who are currently serving on the Safa national panel in the DsTV Premier Soccer League.
The Regional League Women's teams that participated in the playoffs are Hout Bay FC (Cape Town Region), Lidz Ladies FC (Eden Region), Glen Eagles FC (Cape Winelands Region) and Royal Swallows FC (Overberg Region). Glen Eagles and Hout Bay were promoted to the Western Cape Women's Provincial League for the upcoming 2021/22 season after winning their games.
