GEORGE NEWS - Former Geolfa league champions Heaven Stars put in an improved second-half performance to beat Bangalo 3-2 in a tough Geolfa League game last weekend. The game was played on Saturday afternoon, 4 June, at the Lawaaikamp Stadium.
Heaven Stars' three goals came courtesy of Asenathi Gamana, Thabo Dywili and Asenathi "Scara" Ndleleni while Akhona Gamana and Mpho Joka scored for the Bangalos team.
Heaven Stars are fighting their way up the domestic league log, sitting in fifth position. Heaven Stars goalkeeper Solomzi van Beuling played very well, denying Bangalo more than one goal.
Heaven Stars central middle fielder Khayalethu Shumani also had an exceptional game, using his experience on the ball to create more chances for his side. In the second half Bangalo impressed playing the ball from the back with smooth passes.
Heaven Stars scored within the first ten minutes. In return, Bangalo launched a strong attack and managed to equalise. Heaven Stars extended their lead to 2-1 with a top-class goal from Thabo Dywili. Bangalo received a free kick outside the box, which was blocked.
With both teams grinding for a goal in the last minutes of the first half, neither side was successful and Heaven Stars were leading 2-1 when the half-time whistle blew.
The second half saw both teams playing attacking soccer with Heaven Stars showing more sharpness on the ball.
Bangalo put up a strong fight and received a set piece but the Heaven Stars goalkeeper made a brilliant save.
An equalising goal for Bangalo by Mpho Joka gave the team more confidence and Akhona Gamana used a golden opportunity, but again, Heaven Stars' goalkeeper blocked the shot. The last chance of the game fell to Asenathi "Scara" Ndleleni, who broke through Bangalo's defenders and scored the winning goal for Heaven Stars just before the final whistle.
